Nine Aisle-Worthy Looks for Short-Haired Brides (and Brooms!)

There’s no need for brides to go through the daunting task of growing out their hair for the big day. From enchanting pixie cuts to flirty flips and romantic to rock ’n’ roll, we have nine head-turning dos for short-haired brides and brooms.

The emphasis for this look, created by celebrity hair stylist Sherri Jessee of Sherri Jessee Salon, is on height and random texture, with the sides gently swept back to create an edgy shape. “A light dusting of powder, such as Schwarzkopf OSIS Dust It powder, easily amps up texture with the heat of a blow dryer and vent brush,” notes Jessee.

ROMANTIC BOHEMIAN

Bridal stylist Gina Ludwig of Hair Comes the Bride structured the broom’s hairstyle using a bit of pomade and combed forward with her fingers. For the bride, she used a small spiral iron all over, gently tousled with fingers and accessorized with floral hair clips.

Light and airy, this wispy look is soft and feminine. “A light misting of a volumizing lotion, such as Rusk Thickr, will give essential hold as you re-direct fringe using a small round brush,” says Jessee.

OLD HOLLYWOOD

For a sleek and structured look, Ludwig styled the broom’s hair while wet, applying gel and then gently styling it back with her fingers, topping it off with a spritz of hairspray. “We curled the bride’s hair using a large curling iron, curling toward the face,” explains Ludwig. “Once the hair was curled, it was brushed out with a paddle brush and sculpted around her face.” A flirty floral embellishment finishes the look with a dash of Hollywood glamour.

Shine and smoothness in the interior contrast the choppy perimeter creating this young, romantic look. “A slight flick over the ears creates extra interest,” adds Jessee. Apply a small amount of an anti-frizz serum, such as from Global Keratin, and gently smooth down.

ROCK & ROLL

Using pomade, Ludwig molded the broom’s hair to create a faux hawk toward the front. On the bride, the ends were curled and then back-combed for fullness. Then she pinned the back to create an up-do style and added a feather-embellished headband.

I love that you call the butchy women "brooms!" But where are the "guides" here? Are there really no men who want to get married in dresses? -- It's a real question.
