Kayla and I met at Tift Regional Medical Center, my first job as a nurse out of college. I was a new nurse learning the ropes, and Kayla was an experienced night shift charge nurse. My first day on night shift they paired me with Kayla for orientation. I was so nervous because I looked up to her; she’s smart, hard working, and compassionate. The entire shift, I remember hoping I wouldn’t look dumb in front of Kayla. She fascinated me with her knowledge and I intrigued her with my beauty. Come to find out Kayla accepted a position as a nurse manager at a different facility, before I was hired, but ended up backing out of the offer because she wanted to get to know me better. With more time spent working together, our friendship began to build, which turned into a love story.

We share a common interest for traveling. For my birthday, Kayla surprised me with an all inclusive trip to Cancun. On our 2nd night there, Kayla told me she had a surprise for me and to meet her down at the front desk at 7pm. With anticipation thinking I was going on a night excursion, I got ready and headed to the front where I met up with concierge. I was blind folded and was guided around the resort in the sand. As we got closer the wind was blowing my dress up and music was loud. When I finally made it to my destination she took off my blindfold, and Kayla was on one knee with the ring of my dreams. With my personal mariachi band playing in the background, and tears rolling down my face, I said, “YES!”

We enjoyed a candlelit 4 course dinner with champagne in a gazebo with beach waves in the background. September 23,2017 I will be marrying the love of my life. We are getting married in the historic district of downtown Pensacola, Florida at 5Eleven Palafox. With our very supportive friends and family at our sides, we plan to party the night away. Four years of fun and laughter together, and a lifetime to go. #2GurleyGirls
