Eating Smart Before the Big Day
When you’re just days away, food choices may seem unimportant, or you may not want to eat at all, but diet is worth some thought.

eating_smart_image1If you were leading a marathon, would you forgo water and start slamming beers as you enter the last leg? Hopefully not, so don’t encourage wedding-day stumbles either.

Try to stick with your normal eating habits.  As you probably know from traveling, dietary changes often result in an unhappy tummy. Also, no matter how much of an adrenaline rush you’re on, be sure to eat within 3 hours of waking up.  A choice like non-sugary cereal with berries and low-fat milk will get your metabolism going, pack lots of vitamins and keep your energy up for last-minute preparations.

Protein-rich entrees like broiled salmon with brown rice or a tuna sandwich on whole wheat provide the perfect fuel for a busy groom or bride. Omega-3 fatty acids in the fish give your skin, hair, nails and mood a boost, and all the B vitamins will keep you from retaining water. If you want a more intense fluid flush, try eating celery, asparagus, carrots, tomatoes, kiwi, melons and parsley, all of which have a diuretic effect. But don’t get too carried away: That fluid has to come out somewhere. Overdo it, and your walks down to the toilet might steal some of the aisle’s thunder.

Low-sodium nuts or sunflower seeds are a yummy snack option that won’t increase flatulence or bloating, and, as always, drink plenty of water!
