The New York Times is reporting that many brides are “pre-selling” their dresses, or listing their dresses on sites such as woreitonce.com, oncewed.com and preownedweddingdresses.com before their big day.
According to the Times article, the dresses marked for pre-sale are often the most expensive—a bride in New York, for example, has listed her dress on preownedweddingdresses.com for $1,000 off the original $3,850 price tag. Why? Often times, brides selling the gowns spend more than they originally plan to and thus, hope to get some quick money off the pre-sale. Some brides have been successful. The article states that bride-to-be Erin May got $4,650 after pre-selling her $7,000 Vera Wang “Diana” gown. However, caveat venditor—when you agree to pre-sell your wedding dress, not only must you be extra-careful with your item, you also run the risk of the gown not selling at all.
