New York Hotel Celebrates Marriage Equality with Same-Sex Wedding Packages

For couples who want to tie the knot in the Big Apple, the iconic Hotel Plaza Athenee has partnered with wedding planning firm Gay Ever After to produce special all-inclusive wedding packages for up to 100 people, targeting gay couples and toasting to marriage equality.

“Initially, the idea came to mind because I have had gay couples that wanted an easy yet sophisticated wedding celebration within a month’s time, which if very difficult to do,” explains Joseph Alexander, founder of Gay Ever After. “And Hotel Plaza Athenee wanted to find a way to celebrate marriage equality in a way no other hotels currently do by offering pre-conceived wedding packages with all-inclusive services. It really is a one-of-a-kind experience.”

This collaboration is expanding the options already available for same-sex couples, offering multi-tiered wedding packages starting at $5,000 that can be booked with as little as one month’s notice. Packages include day-of coordination services by Alexander himself, as well as floral arrangements designed by renowned Jerry Sibal, premium open bar, on-site ceremony with officiant and a customized gourmet menu. “Each menu is designed by the couple after having a complimentary tasting,” says Mary Cawley, director of catering at the Hotel Plaza Athenee. “We have many seasonal food and drink specialties that we are famous for.” A highlight on their winter menu is the Filet et Foie—a roasted filet mignon with seared foie gras served with chive potato puree and sautéed young zucchini with a soy truffle cream sauce. “It’s truly an amazing one-of-a-kind dish that’s absolutely delicious,” she adds.

The charming hotel sits on prime Manhattan real estate on the Upper East Side, nestled on a tree-lined street just a block away from Central Park. Le Trianon, the ceremony space, is elegantly appointed in natural earth tones with ten windows overlooking the pristine townhouses. The venue’s dazzling, gold-domed, award-winning Arabelle restaurant provides one of the most unique settings in Manhattan for a reception, with its blend of Murano glass and brass chandeliers, chiffon-colored walls and murals of Asian pagodas.

“Partnering with a hotel that celebrates marriage equality was important because there are many vendors and venues that will turn down a couple based on their sexuality,” says Alexander. “I want couples to feel comfortable and be excited for their wedding. After all, it is a once in a lifetime event!”
