The tiniest details can make all the difference. In the case of Mini Me City, the details are literally tiny. Mini Me City is the brainchild of Montreal-based Simar El Nounou. Always passionate about the arts, Simar was inspired to create something with meaning after seeing personalized cake toppers in a store window. Gathering a small team of talented artists, she dove head-first into the world of custom-made cake toppers and hasn't looked back. We interviewed Simar about her business, Mini Me City, and her most recent endeavor: a Kickstarter campaign.
We spoke to Simar about her business, her plans and her upcoming goals. I'll say one thing: couples, if you want something quirky, cute and super fun for your wedding cake (or wedding cupcakes, or wedding pie, or just to display for the sake of cuteness), you should check out Mini Me City.
Tell us how you got started in this business! We'd love to know more.
I’ve always been passionate about the arts, but when I saw very basic personalized cake toppers in a store window, I was instantly inspired. I gathered a group of really talented artists (please note that I am always looking for more to add to my team!), and we are looking forward to creating personalized cake toppers, figurines and caricatures that are made specifically for our clients and Kickstarter backers. I love the idea of our figurines being part of weddings and special days all over the world.
What is the Kickstarter campaign for?
The money pledged towards our Kickstarter campaign will go towards materials that will help us create the custom shipping boxes that our figurines come in and will also help us cover the costs of new supplies for our Mini Me figurines. A successful campaign will bring our customized figurines to the next level.
Can you tell us a little bit about your process for creating the Mini Me figurines?
Our talented artists start by shaping the clay to include eyes, a nose, a mouth, hair and other characteristics that are individual to the client (based on photographs they receive from our clients).
After the artists have finished creating the figurine's head, they will move on to the body. Based on the photos and the request of the clients, they will shape the body, clothing and accessories. Whether it be a wedding dress, sports uniform, tuxedo or normal attire, our team will work hard to perfectly match the exact specifications. If necessary, we will even shape the clay to reflect a certain pose requested for a figurine.
Once we are sure the coloring, accessories and tiny details are perfect on both the face and body, the artists will put the two clay pieces together for the final product. The customer will even receive a photo to approve! Ultimately, our process allows us to create the best personalized and custom-made figurines and cake toppers that are unique for each client!
Why are Mini Me City figurines so special?
Our cake toppers are special for couples getting married because they walk away from that special day with a piece of their wedding to keep with them forever. Since the cake toppers are an exact replica of how they looked on their special day, the couple can look back for years to come and remember every detail or special moment from their wedding.
What's one of the nicest things that you've ever heard from a customer?
We receive many testimonials, but one in particular stands out to me—it's from one of our customers telling us how happy they were with their Mini Me City wedding cake topper. The Mini Me perfectly reflected their special day, and everyone was astonished that we were able to capture even the tiniest details to make their Mini Me percent theirs.
Thank you, Simar, for sharing your story with Equally Wed! Brides, grooms, brooms and anyone else, if you're interested in these cute, quirky cake toppers, head on over to the Mini Me City website, take a peek around, and start a discussion with Simar and the rest of the Mini Me City artists. Be sure to check out the Kickstarter campaign, too!
