Mainers have the signatures—more than 100,000—to get marriage equality on the ballot, the Advocate reports. EqualityMaine, Maine Civil Liberties Union and the Maine Women's Lobby will announce Thursday whether they plan to deliver the petitions and carry through with a referendum.

Former Maine Gov. John Baldacci signed a gay marriage law in June 2009. Voters overturned the law a few months later by a vote of 53 to 47 percent. Maine remains the only New England state that doesn’t legally recognize gay marriage or civil unions.
