Another year has come to a close, and boy, what a year it was for gay marriage! In 2011, we saw the Respect for Marriage Act introduced into Congress, same-sex marriage become legally recognized in New York, and the end of “don’t ask, don’t tell.” We also saw some of our favorite celebrities make the leap to happily ever after. Check out these six gay celebrity couples who said “I do” in 2011.

Successful designer and "Project Runway" judge Michael Kors wed his co-worker and longtime partner Lance LePere on Aug. 18 in a private beach ceremony on Dune Beach in Southampton, New York. "To marry someone as wonderful and special to me as Lance barefoot on a glorious beach is more than I could have dreamed of,” Kors told WWD.

Country music star Chely Wright married girlfriend Lauren Blitzer, a gay rights activist, on Aug. 20. The lovebirds married at Blitzer's aunt's home in Connecticut by both a rabbi and a reverend, and served their 200-plus guests barbecue from New York’s Blue Smoke.

After 11 years together, actor Cheyenne Jackson (“30 Rock,” Broadway) and physicist Monte Lapka tied the knot at a private beach ceremony in New York on Sept. 3. Afterwards, Jackson playfully tweeted that the lovebirds’ pooch Zora was “no longer a bastard.”

Mario Cantone, who you probably recognize as Charlotte York’s sassy gay friend on “Sex and the City,” wed his partner of 20 years, Jerry Dixon, in October. The accomplished Broadway star and comedian told “The View” host Joy Behar, "I got married for the same reasons you did. We're older now. We've been together 20 years. After 20 years you're like, 'Thanks for the anti-climactic honeymoon, government!'"

We were ecstatic when we heard Evan Wolfson, founder of Freedom to Marry, announce that he and his partner, Dr. Cheng He, tied the knot on Oct. 15. Wolfson, a tireless advocate for gay rights and champion of gay marriage, exchanged vows with his beau in New York wearing matching black suits and Hawaiian leis under a bamboo wedding canopy.

Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra, the talented design duo behind womenswear label Costello Tagliapietra, tied the knot on Oct. 17 at New York’s City Hall. The two met at Parsons School of Design in 1994 and found they shared a love for sophisticated fashion ... and each other.
