Throngs gathered at Fountain Square in Cincinnati—in support of gay marriage, Cincinnati’s NBC affiliate, WLWT reported, according to On Top Magazine. Marriage equality hangs in the balance in Ohio. A Republican governor and legislature lead the Buckeye state.

Rally coordinator Adam Hoover wants to transform minds. “Honestly, all I want is just marriage equality in Ohio,” he said. “I want to be able to change stuff in Ohio. I don’t want to be that person that doesn’t do stuff. I want to be the person what is there for everyone. No matter what I do, I just want to be there.”

IN THE GARDEN STATE

The quest for gay marriage in New Jersey can continue. Although Mercer County Judge Linda Feinberg dismissed counts of the suit—which Lambda Legal and Garden State Equality filed on behalf of several gay couples—but ruled prohibiting gay marriage is equal protection violation.

Feinberg made her ruling Friday, according to the New Jersey Star-Ledger, the Advocate reported.

“I don’t think that the court can remain silent and take no action if … the result is that those benefits are not equal in the protections,” Feinberg said.

Civil unions became legal in New Jersey in 2006. Lambda Legal argued that the absence of gay marriage rights affects health care decisions and encourages discrimination, according to Lambda Legal deputy legal director Hayley Gorenberg.

“These families need marriage equality and should not have to live with a law that treats them as inferior,” Gorenberg said in a press release Friday.
