The wedding ceremony is the most important part of your wedding—even more important than the cake—because it is where you state in front of all your family and friends that you want to spend the rest of your lives together. While it’s a lot of fun planning the party aka the reception, don’t overlook your wedding ceremony details. There’s music for the processional and recessional, special readings given by loved ones, your vows, the decor, the program and a toss that all have to be planned.

Make sure that the acoustics are great if you’re not using a mic or have a professional wire the space for sound. You want all of your guests to hear the officiant and both of you say “I do.”

As for seating, there are multiple options for you to choose from. Of course the venue will dictate whether you have the freedom to rearrange the chairs, but as long as they’re not nailed to the floor talk to the venue manager and your florist about alternate set-ups. Here are a few ideas:

BENCHES

This casual seating option is great for a wedding ceremony held in a large open space such as a park, beach or field.

IN THE ROUND

Have your guests surround you as you say your vows. Place chairs in a circular arrangement and make the aisle part of the circle so you and your fiancé/e are surrounded by the love.

CREATIVE FURNITURE

Who says guests need to sit on folding or Chiavari chairs? Talk to the venue, your wedding planner or florist about alternative ideas—like the sofas shown here—or chair styles that will match your wedding’s location and theme. — Anne Chertoff
