Luckily, we have you covered for the five major beauty blunders of brides and grooms. Unwanted Baggage: With exciting wedding jitters at their highest peak, the chances of a sleepless night before the big day are high. To prevent eye baggage, soothe the night before with an eye lotion (we recommend Liz Earle’s Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion, $18.50, also great for your morning ritual). For morning-of puffiness, steep two green tea bags and put them in the freezer to chill. Once frosted, apply to your peepers for 10 minutes and let the caffeine and coolness constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling.Manicure Mayhem: Patience is a virtue, especially when it comes to drying nail polish, but it’s difficult to have on a day as hectic as your wedding. For ripples in the color, rub remover over the polish in a circular motion to even it out, followed by a topcoat. For chips, fill in the spot with a drop of matching-hued polish and let dry, followed by the above process. Nicked a nail? Smooth with a fine grit file. For major mends, apply a tiny drop of nail glue under the broken nail and press, then buff and topcoat to smooth the polish.Zit Fix: With all of the stress surrounding your big day, day-of zits are incredibly common, even with weeks of pre-wedding beauty preparation. Take an ibuprofen to reduce swelling and then apply a product to dry it out, such as Sonya Dakar Drying Potion ($25), which uses zinc oxide to combat the bacteria. If available, use an eco-friendly concealer, as the lack of artificial ingredients will keep the pimple from getting worse throughout the day. We love RMS’s “Un” Cover-Up ($36), which is formulated to actually heal the skin and is light enough for even masculine-minded brides and grooms to comfortably wear.Messy Makeup: Even the most melt-proof makeup is bound to get messy when temperatures and emotions rise. Prep your skin with a lightweight moisturizer and primer before applying makeup to prevent. For throughout-the-day fixes, dip a Q-Tip in your go-to makeup remover and let dry the morning of. When needed, wet with water and fix.Rid Razor Bumps and Burns: Excitement (and time) may have you rushing through your morning shave routine, but the outcome may be a less-than-ideal result. To prevent razor burn, shave with a sharp, new razor (or clean blades if you have an electric shaver) after a hot shower (the steam helps to open the pores). Apply a shave gel and shave with the grain of the hair. Splash with cool water to close the pores and pat dry. If you’re prone to falling victim to bumps and burns, rub a soothing aftershave stocked with vitamins, such as Organic Male’s Soothing Herbal Shaving Emulsion. Photo: Real Wedding Amy and Jeri, photography by Michele M.
