We did a piece last month about the different types of dress shirt fabrics, and we are following that article by delving into the world of collars. The collar’s purpose is to frame a person’s face and accentuate his or her best qualities. By learning about all the variations in collars, you can look the best for your upcoming wedding: THE POINT COLLARThe point collar is the most popular collar and is found on 90 percent of men’s dress shirts. For this look, the points (meaning the two tips of the collar) are relatively close together. Point collars can vary widely in length and width between the points, with longer options being particularly good on people with round faces. Point collars can also come button-down—a more casual style that is usually worn without a tie. SPREAD OR CUTAWAY COLLARThese collars have the points cut to reveal more of the upper shirt area and leave more room for wider tie knots. They come in a variety of widths as well, starting at three inches between the points and expanding from there. Wider spreads tend to create a fully proportioned look on smaller people. It also works best on those with thin facial features. ROUNDED COLLARRounded collars are very unique among menswear, but more common in women’s. They work well with skinny ties. I especially love the Peter Pan collar style, which is a very exaggerated rounded point.More from Equally Wed’s Dress Shirt Guide:• MeasurementsTips on how to get your exact measurements for your wedding dress shirt. • The FabricsAn introduction to dress shirt fabrics to help make your shirt buying a little easier."},{"@context":"https://schema.org/","@type":"BreadcrumbList
@type":"ListItem
