If you’re having a formal or black-tie event, you want to wear a tuxedo,\u201d Jackson explained. Within tuxedos, lapel style can elevate your look further. \u201cA notch lapel is the most common and most popular tuxedo jacket. The next level up would be the peak lapel jacket. And lastly, the most formal look is the shawl lapel,\u201d he said, noting that many people favor the shawl lapel for its sleek look and elongating effect. For less formal weddings, suits in classic shades like black, navy, charcoal or gray are great, while brighter colors like blue, tan or green work well for outdoor or summer weddings.For 2025 wedding trends, Generation Tux’s president noted the strong interest in timeless styles. \u201cThe classic black tuxedo has made a big comeback over the last couple of years. We’re still seeing a lot of wedding couples choosing the Black Notch Lapel Tuxedo,\u201d Jackson said. He also highlighted Mystic Blue and Gray Sharkskin as popular year-round picks, and British Tan as a go-to for spring and summer ceremonies.As for timing for when to order your wedding suit or tuxedo, Jackson recommends planning ahead. \u201cMost people design their look and order their free home try-on about 3 to 4 months out from their wedding date,\u201d he advised. He also recommended not waiting too long in case adjustments are needed, and to allow time for any changes to accessories or coordinating items for the wedding party.For those looking to personalize their style, Jackson has plenty of suggestions. \u201cIf you want to stay traditional but have a little fun with your wedding look, it’s easy to take a classic look and add some extra style,\u201d said Jackson. He suggested pairing your suit with a bold or patterned tie, adding a vibrant pocket square, or playing with vest colors for contrast. Footwear and socks are another area to express personality\u2014colorful socks or your favorite sneakers can make the outfit feel more “you.”Accessories can make or break a wedding look. Jackson encourages couples to think beyond the basics. Tie bars, cufflinks, lapel pins, suspenders, and unique shoe choices can all be integrated to add personal flair and elegance. “This is a head-to-toe look, and every piece is an opportunity to show some personality,” he said.Fit is another essential element to consider. A well-fitting suit or tuxedo not only looks great but feels comfortable throughout the day.
