Now, 54 percent of registered voters support the rights of gays and lesbians to marry\u2014as opposed to 2009, the Daily Kos reports.  Then, they opposed gay marriage by a margin of 47 to 53 percent. Despite the transformation of public opinion, only hard work will insure defeat of a planned referendum in November.  For instance, Independents rejected gay marriage\u201452 to 46 percent\u2014in 2009. They now support it by 57 to 36 margin. The 2009 gay marriage repeal was described as the \u201cpeople’s veto\u201d of gay marriage. The conclusions were based on Public Policy Polling results.
