LGBT couples who were planning on escaping to paradise to get legally wed may need to alter their plan.
Thanks to a loophole in the Quintana Roo region of Mexico’s civil code found earlier this month, gay couples reportedly could marry in the Mexican Caribbean resort towns of Cancun and Cozumel. But Secretary of State Lois Gonzalez Flores has ordered a review of the legality of same-sex marriage and suspended the six gay and lesbian weddings that were scheduled to take place in Cancun later this month, La Reforma reports.
Until further notice, the city-state of Mexico City is the only municipality in Mexico in which same-sex marriage is officially recognized.
