So, you bite your nails. And youâre getting married. Thatâs a tough situation to be in. For those of us who know what itâs like, trying to kick the habit is one of the most challenging feats to accomplish. Here are some tips that may help you have beautiful (and natural) nails when you say, âI do.â
A BAD AFTERTASTE
One of the simplest things to try is bitter tasting nail polished, designed specifically for biters. The clear liquid goes on like nail polish so you can easily forget about it. Then, when you try and bite your nails later, there will be a terrible taste in your mouth. Try brands like Bite No More. If polish doesnât do the trick, try hand cream instead. The alien taste wonât may not as easily be disregarded.
TREAT YOURSELF
To help kick start the difficult process, get a manicure. If youâre like me, you are less likely to bite the nails when they are pretty and shiny. Then, carry a manicure set everywhere. If you get an annoying hangnail, you will have the proper tools to take of it. You can also use clippers to trim your nails when they look appetizing. Non-bitten nails donât have to be longâthey just have to be tidy.
PULLING THE TRIGGER
Usually, stress triggers the nail bitingâsomething we know that you donât have enough of while planning the wedding. Try using a hair tie, rubber band or bracelet to occupy your fingers if you get the urge. Plus, if you use this method, youâll have an excuse to go jewelry shopping!
FAKE IT âTIL YOU MAKE IT
Fake nails are a popular method to cover up on your wedding day, but be careful in selecting your method. According to Discovery Fit & Health, nail beds can get very damaged during the process; toughness and discoloration, and thatâs for healthy fingernails! Acrylics and the subsequent acetone nail polish remover may ruin your already damaged nails. Read one brideâs tragedy on Bridal Musing Wedding Blog.
Gross factor: Fungus growth can easily occur underneath the fakes since usually biters continue to put the nails the oral region. Wedding receptions do not accommodate that guest.
WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, ACCESSORIZE
You can have fun with vintage wrist gloves for a glam look, or you can take a more elegant approach with elbow-length gloves, a la Audrey Hepburn. Your nails will be out of sight, and you donât have to worry about damage from acrylic or other types of fake nails.
