There are few things sweeter and more inspiring than actually seeing gay and lesbian couples tie the knot. Equally Wed has been lucky enough to feature more than 50 couples in our Real Weddings, helping to share their love story across the nation. Since 2008 when our first featured couple was married, we’ve seen many fashion statements, but none more intriguing than the flowers. From subdued to daring, here are our favorite boutonnieres from our Real Wedding couples.
MASCULINE CHIC
Walking down the aisle in 2008, both Jonathan and Steven sported elegant black boutonnieres on each of their equally stunning black suits. Created with black callas, fern fronds and equisetum caps, the arrangement helped convey their personal vision of a masculine-centered wedding and reception.
A SOFT TOUCH
After being together for six and a half years, Shae and Beth had a pink Massachusetts wedding. The couple, who wed in 2011, decided to have pink cymbidium orchids as their main flower, and Shae’s boutonniere was a single orchid. The pastel pink color and the delicate blossom beautifully conveyed the bride’s feminine and soft side.
SOPHISTICATED AND BOLD
Glenn and Michael exchanged vows in the Apogee Lounge in Jacksonville, Fla. Matching their violet wedding palette, the two wore identical aubergine callas fit for royalty on their suit lapels. The bright purple hue added an eye-catching yet sophisticated element to their nuptials.
BRIGHT AND FUN
Fit for the big tent, Alex and Megan’s circus-themed wedding was full of fun, bright, gypsy-like colors. The bride had a stunning, yellow and orange boutonniere on her white suit matching the sunflowers, foxgloves and dahlias in Megan’s bouquet. These kinds of flowers reminds us the wedding day is also happy and fun.
CLASSIC ELEGANCE
You can’t go wrong with a white rose boutonniere as Jamie and Carrie showed in their Atlanta wedding. Both women sported the beautiful boutonnieres on their wedding suits. Their single flower accents matched the ivory calla lilies, white roses, white lilies and white hydrangeas of the wedding, which were dedicated to the memory of Carrie’s grandmother.
