There is food, and then there is food truck food. Somehow, in a manner not quite known, the deliciousness surpasses that of regular fast food chains. Perhaps it’s because the limited space in the trucks promotes excellence in the infamous “quality vs. quantity” conundrum. Or maybe it’s because most of the food trucks are small operations that are oftentimes family owned. Even the elusive and temporary aura of a travelling eatery adds something different and unique. No matter the reason, food trucks are a hot-ticket item. Along with the increase in food truck popularity has come a brilliant stroke of genius: wedding food trucks. It’s so unbelievably perfect. It’s city chic; a modern twist incorporating those to-die-for Chinese dumplings or delectable cupcakes.

Food trucks can range from childhood novelties, like the ice cream truck Kim and Randie featured (above) to local flavor as seen at Shavonda and Naomi’s nuptials (below).

In large cities like New York City, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles, the beloved mobile eateries are especially becoming a popular catering choice. To find trucks near you, or near your wedding venue, Food Trucks Map can be a helpful tool. Also, be sure to keep these three things in mind before booking your mobile meal:

circle_1 For a large guest list, long lines are inevitable. Book multiple trucks or have other foods available for them buffet-style in the reception area so guests aren’t starving by the time they make their order. One food truck for every 75 guests is a good estimate.
circle_2 Weather plays a role, as guests will be standing in line outside. Spring or fall are ideal food truck seasons, but you can keep guests cool in the summer with a truck that serves up ice cream or slushies.
circle_3 Food trailers are often known for their specific flavor, so be sure there is something for every guest. Steer away from any known for their ultra spicy menu to accommodate to multiple palates. If they’re catering the entire reception meal, be sure they offer a range of food options.
