Planning a Wedding is Fun
Here’s How to Not Kill Each Other in the Process

planning a gay weddingSo you finally got the proposal. Congrats! Now you have that little thing called a wedding to plan. Yikes! Here are five planning pointers from the pros to make sure you don’t split from the love of your life before the big day.

1 Be clear about the division of labor. Be brutally honest from the start about how many hours a day the two of you can fully commit to, recommends Bridal 101 workshop leaders Dr. Michelle and Dr. Patrick Gannon.

2 Get on a clearly defined schedule. Even if you thrive in chaos, this will be one task that’s best tackled in an orderly way, advises relationship expert Meredith Hanson. Figure out when in the day/week you’ll delve in and chip away at the task.

3 There’s no shame in booking a wedding planner. In fact, Hanson recommends you do as an extra assurance your big day is “amazing.”

4 Take some time to visualize. Close your eyes and imagine your reception and pay attention to the things you fantasize about, according to Judith Sherven and James Sniechowski, co-authors of The Smart Couple’s Guide to the Wedding of Your Dreams. This will help with the out-of-the box ideas that will make your wedding unique.

5 Don’t forget about date night. Yes, you’re planning a wedding but please, please don’t forget the romance beforehand. Take some time out to have fun. It is, after all, why you’re walking down the aisle to begin with, writes Hanson.
