Our neighbors across the pond have found themselves in the middle of the marriage equality battle as well, and one particular group in the U.K. has come up with one of the most ridiculous reasonings we have yet to hear.
The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children has been circulating a flier that states, “We must protect real marriage because it protects children in the womb. Statistics show that unborn babies are four or five times more likely to be aborted outside real marriage.”
Um, did they go to their middle school sex ed class?
Their line of thinking would actually be amusing if it wasn’t so darn infuriating. Aside from the biological obviousness, abortion rates have only risen in one of the five countries that legally recognize same-sex marriage (Spain), and that likely has more to do with the progressive mentality than straight couples refusing to marry because (gasp!) gays can.
So now we can sleep easy tonight—gay marriage, indeed, does not kill unborn children.
