The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin sang to new husbands Bill White and Bryan Eure at their exit onto the Freeway Of Love. Aretha Franklin celebrated White and Eure’s freedom to love and marry during their high-profile union Sunday.

Prop. 8 attorney David Boies officiated the ceremony, Women’s Wear Daily and Advocate Magazine reported. Franklin belted out “Think,” “I Will Always Love You,” “I Say A Little Prayer” and—of course—“Respect.”

Guests included ABC News legend Barbara Walters, Broadway legend Joel Grey and Gayle King as well as former New York governors David Paterson and David Dinkins.

“We want it to be not just about us, but about the fact that there are 44 other states in this country that don’t allow you to marry who you love,” White said.

GAY TROOPS, VETS CHALLENGING DOMA
Mass. Army National Guard Maj. Shannon McLaughlin, 41, and wife, Casey, 34, joined forces with five fellow current service members and two veterans—questioning the Defense of Marriage Act’s legitimacy in a lawsuit filed today, the Washington Post and towleroad.com reported.

Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) launched the legal effort. The lawsuit was filed in the same federal court, which ruled DOMA unconstitutional, the Post also reported. The court said it interfered with states’ rights to define marriage.

“What Shannon and Casey are seeking is the same treatment that their straight counterparts, who are legally married, receive every day without question and take for granted,” SLDN Executive Director Aubrey Sarvis said.
