The stories from “Standing on the Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays,” a 90-minute collection of monologues and shorts which delves into the dynamics of gay marriage with wit and warmth, were brought to reality with a real-life proposal following the last act Friday evening.

Dina Weisberger proposes to girlfriend Jenny Greenstein
The cast, consisting of Craig Bierko, Mark Conseulos, Polly Draper, Harriet Harris, Beth Leavel and Richard Thomas, introduced Dina Weisberger as the weekly winner of their bachelorette lottery in a well-orchestrated proposal plan. Sitting in the second row, Dina admitted to not being a bachelorette, in fact, she wasn’t even engaged, but that she could “maybe take care of that now.”
As excited gasps from the audience echoed through the room, she turned to her girlfriend Jenny Greenstein. “You are the most amazing loving, supporting partner that anyone could ever ask for,” she proclaimed before bending on one knee and asking her to marry her. With an enthusiastic “Yes!” the crowd, which held all of their closest friends and family in the top balcony, exploded into applause.
