Tulle, lace, organza—these are the typical materials that go into creating a wedding dress. But Angel Sanchez broke the bridal barriers with his Spring 2013 line and the result was a truly ethereal collection.
Models walked down the loft-like runway in traditional silhouettes that were accented with edge: geometric acetate details, feather appliques and sequined lace trim. “Inspiration came from the materials and details. It’s just about making beautiful dresses and playing with different textures and different techniques,” Sanchez told us backstage before the show. “Getting some kind of different effect.”
That close attention to detail is what drew gasps from the crowd, as couture designs paired with romantic icy beauty looks marched down the brightly lit room. “I like to get fun and really enjoy the whole process. I don’t like the traditional, so I create my bridal with a fashion point of view. I don’t like typical traditional flowers, lace, poufy dresses just because it’s what bridal is ‘supposed,’ to be. I like to break a little bit of rules,” he said with a grin. “People are afraid to experiment and to really play with but my bridal is about that. The Angel Sanchez bride is modern and fashion-forward.”
