After many hours of heated debate, Argentina’s Senate approved a same-sex marriage bill early this morning by a vote of 33-27. The bill, which sparked controversy and protest from the Roman Catholic Church, gives homosexuals the same marriage rights as heterosexual couples, including the right to adopt children. President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner is expected to sign gay marriage into law soon, making Argentina the first Latin American country to allow same-sex marriage.
