Madeline and Richelle’s intentional and intimate lesbian wedding at a brewery in St. Louis featured a women-only event with a fun afterparty where the newlyweds showed off their swing dance skills for their first dance.
Madeline and Richelle met through a mutual ex. They started talking after Madeline and that ex broke up, became friends, and then quickly realized they had feelings for each other. The first time they met in person was in the parking lot of Rehab, a queer bar in St. Louis, before going to a drag show at Attitudes, another queer bar in STL, with their friends.
Richelle proposed on a fancy picnic in Bentonville, Arkansas, while they were on a vacation celebrating their second dating anniversary. Unbeknownst to them, there was a Pride event at the park and museum where they had their picnic and they celebrated with a drag show, drinks and art exhibits!
Before the wedding day, they took bridal portraits at City Museum, one of their favorite places to frequent in downtown STL. The brides started by getting ready together with their wedding parties at the Fleur De Lys Mansion B&B. Their ceremony was held at Earthbound Beer, and only women were invited (except their dads). For photos, the guests had access to the cave-like lagering cellars for photos at the brewery. During the ceremony, they had all of their guests pour water into a communal bowl as a unity ritual. To make it extra meaningful, the ritual water came from the guests’ homes. The reception was kept simple with appetizers and cupcakes while mingling with their guests. They also had a big afterparty with all of their friends at Hummel’s Pub, a St. Louis lesbian bar, where they shared their first dance. The marriers did a swing dance routine for their first dance, a hobby they got into together.
