The most precious things come with a story. Bario Neal was founded 14 years ago with this shared idea in mind. Today, this LGBTQ+ inclusive and affirming jeweler is an industry leader in ethical sourcing and mindful production. Their jewelry reflects individualism, gender and marriage equality, and conscious values rooted in ethical origin from mine to market.

When visiting Bario Neal in their Philadelphia or New York showrooms, you will find an atmosphere unlike any other jewelry shop. The Philadelphia flagship doubles as both a production workshop and retail space, where a diverse group of skilled jewelers work next to the collection displays. For those unable to visit the showrooms, their website is the perfect place to browse their gender-neutral and size-inclusive rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Bario Neal also provides a virtual appointment option, ideal for a consultation or custom designing of rings.

Bario Neal makes jewelry that celebrates love and life for all identities and experiences, and we love their commitment to maintaining transparency and continuous improvement to create a new sustainable standard within the jewelry industry. We spoke with Page Neal, principal and lead designer at Bario Neal, to learn more about this sustainable and inclusive jewelry brand.

EQUALLY WED: How do you show you are LGBTQ+ inclusive and affirming to your potential new customers/clients?

Bario Neal: We make jewelry for everyone and any occasion, marriage and beyond. We don’t prescribe to the heteronormative ideals predominant in the jewelry industry—the right to love who you choose is one of our founding beliefs. Our design ethos is gender-neutral and size-inclusive, and we love working with customers to create pieces that celebrate and reflect their identity and experience.

What are three tips you could give Equally Wed readers for buying wedding and engagement jewelry?

Trust your intuition when deciding the jewelry that you will wear for a lifetime. What are you first drawn to? Which gemstone or metal colors speak to you? Need some direction? Check out this blog article for first-time ring-wearer tips!

If you prefer to surprise your partner with an engagement ring but are unsure of what they would like best, propose with our Ready Band and then book an in-store or virtual appointment with your partner once you are both ready to begin browsing or designing a ring!

Do your homework about what makes jewelry ethical and be prepared to ask any jeweler in-depth questions about their materials and production. Visit our ethics page and Sustainability Report to learn more about Bario Neal’s practices.

Do you have any specials or packages you’d like us to know about?

We like to spread the love around! Our customers receive 5 percent off their entire order when making a purchase or deposit on the same day as their virtual or in-store appointment.

What else should engaged LGBTQ+ couples and marriers know about Bario Neal?

In addition to our collection, we work with clients all over the world to custom design their jewelry, which sometimes involves repurposing their heirloom gemstones. Check out our custom page for inspiration!
