New York’s Senate has voted to pass the Marriage Equality Act 33-29, which passed in the State Assembly last week 80-63. This vote makes New York the sixth state in the country to legally recognize same-sex marriage with full and equal rights.
Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the marriage equality bill into law just before midnight on Friday, which means the law will take effect on July 24, 2011.
