A federal judge has ordered that Ohio recognize same-sex marriages that were performed in other states. The ruling, ordered by Judge Timothy Black, states that Ohio was violating constitutional rights by refusing to recognize the marriages of same-sex couples. Black argued that it was “unenforceable in all circumstances.”
“The record before this court … is staggeringly devoid of any legitimate justification for the state’s ongoing arbitrary discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation,” Black wrote.
While the order doesn’t allow same-sex couples to be issued marriage licenses in the state of Ohio, it’s one step forward for marriage equality.
