Afternoon engagement session in Boston after concert proposal

Dylan wanted to propose to Cathy in a way she would never forget.

“We were going to a concert to see one of Cathy’s favorite artists, Andy Black, perform,” Dylan writes. “While at the concert, I had the idea that proposing with the help of one of Cathy’s idols would be a dream come true. I knew it was unlikely to happen, but thought that if I could make it work, then it was truly meant to be.”

“I excused myself ‘to the bathroom,’ but really went over to Andy Black’s tour manager, who was standing at the sound booth in the back of the venue. I explained the idea and asked for his help, but he said there was nothing he could do now that Andy was already on stage.”

But Dylan wouldn’t take no for an answer.

“I tried something a little more creative and wrote a note on a napkin that I then planned to walk to the stage and try to get into the hands of Andy Black. With the napkin in hand, reading, ‘Andy, will you help me propose to my girlfriend? She is a die hard fan,’ I made my way through the crowd towards the stage (which was no easy task). After multiple attempts and some help from a handful of audience members, Andy finally received the napkin and brought me up on stage to propose to Cathy.”

When Cathy saw Dylan standing next to Andy Black, she began to cry and make her way up to the stage.

“With a non-engagement ring that I already had as my own, I proposed to her on stage with Andy Black, and she said, ‘Yes!’ Two days later, we went engagement ring shopping, and switched out that substitute ring for the real deal.”

Later that year, Cathy proposed back to Dylan while they were working on a Habitat for Humanity project in Nashville.

“As a celebration of Nashville’s music roots, Habitat Nashville had arranged for marching bands to march all of the volunteers out of the worksite at the end of each day. At the end of day 4, we were watching as the marching band made their way by our worksite. Then, marching behind the band, came a couple of Habitat volunteers and friends of ours holding a banner that read, ‘Dylan, will you marry me? -C.'”

They celebrated their engagement with a beautiful and fun-filled photo shoot on Boston’s Beacon Hill.
