When Day and Megan first met on Bumble, fate had other plans. Though they were both visiting Washington at the time, they never had a chance to meet before returning to their homes in California. But destiny wasn’t done with them yet. When they finally met in person, they embarked on a five-day adventure through Mount Shasta and Lassen Volcanic National Park. It was there, by the breathtaking waters of Lake Helen, that Megan first told Day she loved her and knew she wanted to marry her. Years later, it only made sense for them to return to this meaningful place to exchange vows and make their commitment official.

A Proposal at Sea

Megan took the lead when it came to popping the question. While on a cruise in Washington, sailing across the ocean where they first “met” on Bumble, Megan surprised Day with a heartfelt proposal. The moment was intimate, romantic, and so special.

A Ceremony Rooted in Nature

For their wedding, the couple embraced the beauty of the outdoors, opting for a symbolic, spiritual, and modern elopement at Lake Helen. Wanting to feel completely connected to the Earth, they stood barefoot in the water as they exchanged personal vows. Writing their vows was one of the most emotional parts of the planning process. They didn’t follow templates or guidelines, instead letting their hearts lead the way. To mark the moment after saying “I do,” a close friend sounded a gong, sealing their promises in a deeply spiritual way.

Intentional and Meaningful Fashion

Megan and Day carefully chose their wedding attire to reflect their personalities and heritage. Megan, embracing her feminine side, wore a stunning gown from Linen Jolie Bridal that fit like a dream and allowed her to move comfortably in the natural setting. Day, honoring her Native American heritage and personal style, opted for a suit from Nordstrom with a feather incorporated. “Feathers have always been a lucky symbol for me, so it was important to have one incorporated with my outfit,” she says.

Colors, Florals, and a Deeply Personal Touch

The couple didn’t stick to a set color scheme but naturally gravitated toward white and shades of blue, which were reflected in their attire and guests’ outfits. The florals were bright, colorful, and full of life—perfectly complementing Megan’s bubbly personality.

A Private Celebration with Heartfelt Letters

After their ceremony, the newlyweds shared a meal catered by Monaghan’s Cuisine, enjoying an intimate moment away from the world. Though they eloped, they found a way to include loved ones who couldn’t be there. Friends and family wrote them heartfelt letters, which they read privately after dinner. It was an emotional and deeply meaningful way to end their day, proving that love knows no bounds, whether near or far.

Words of Wisdom for Future LGBTQ+ Brides, Grooms and Marriers

When asked about wedding planning advice, Megan and Day emphasized the importance of staying true to what feels right. “I’d say one of the most important things for couples planning their wedding is to stay true to what you both want, not what everyone else expects. It’s easy to get caught up in the noise of what’s traditional or what others think you should do, but at the end of the day, your wedding is about celebrating your relationship.”
