Cincinnati city personnel could soon receive domestic partner benefits, Cincinnati.com reports. Openly gay City Councilman Chris Seelbach is shopping a motion, mandating the administration to study offering benefits to gay and lesbian employees and their partners, as well as its cost.

The proposal will be introduced within the first 100 days of Seelbach’s Nov. 8 election, he said. A survey shows there’s broad support for offering benefits among the city council.
Seelbach said the move helps GLBT Cincinnati residents and the city at large. He said it would go a long way toward bringing new blood to the city.
“As we continue to compete for jobs and talent, I don’t want to lose someone because they say they can’t afford to lose benefits for their partner,” Seelbach said.
