When Rebecca first met Jaclyn, she felt the spark. She knew that Jaclyn had to be in her life. Rebecca had no trouble embracing her inner child by wearing Spiderman socks, and Jaclyn immediately liked Rebecca’s easygoing nature.
Although they both were drawn to each other, they didn’t think this interest would grow into something bigger. It never crossed their mind they’d reach that beautiful point when they would stand at the wedding altar, shedding tears of joy and saying their heart-melting vows. But love was bigger than their thoughts.
We caught up with the brides to learn their love story in their own words. You’ll find those after their gorgeous wedding photos.
Equally Wed: Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
We wanted a sleek industrial-meets-lofty style wedding, so we chose Valentine DTLA to celebrate our special day. Our wedding colors were purple and eucalyptus, and our bridal party also came in purple, a perfect combination with the lush greenery there.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
One of the reasons we chose Valentine DTLA was because it had this dramatic greenhouse look we loved so much. We had a lot of green and purple in mind for our wedding, so the lush gardens, quirky sun-lit rooms with rustic touches, and original artwork by local artists were a match made in heaven.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
Our space was decorated with exotic flowers: bright purple orchids combined with eucalyptus and burgundy English roses.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
Yes! We had Second Song DJs at our wedding who did a terrific job; a super cute photo booth; and a champagne fountain that we poured ourselves. We all had so much fun dancing, eating and laughing the whole day that we wished it had never ended.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
We both wore fit-and-flare-shaped wedding gowns. Rebecca’s dress had embellished lace details, and I had an elegant crisscross pleated dress. Rebecca was the only one wearing the veil.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal(s).
We met on a cold evening at a San Bernardino festival that we were both working at on the night before Halloween. We had sparked each other’s interest in getting to know one another (You know, that feeling you get when you look across the room and have to meet that person? It was kind of like that.) Anyway, after a little bit of Instagram stalking and exchanging numbers, we would find ourselves staying up until the early hours of the morning discussing the finer things in life, such as morals, beliefs, personal values, and music. We began hanging out more, and that spark turned into a fire. During one of our many camping trips, on a beautiful sunsetting afternoon, as we floated on inner tubes down the Virgin River in Zion, Utah, we transformed from friends to lovers. Our relationship of five years has been burning ever since. The news of our relationship to the families was a bit of a revelation, a type of catalyst which has continued to encourage honesty, sincerity, and openness between us.The relationship we have truly celebrates moments with family, friends, and trips across the world. We love to scuba dive and have become certified from novice to advanced divers together. On Halloweenie 2021, we adopted our fur baby, Rio, a Great Dane (or horse), and our tiny fur family grew in size as princess Rusko (cat who will live forever) gained a big little brother. At some point, we decided to invite our closest ones to share the growing heart of our family as we were about to start a new journey into unionizing our lives publicly and legally in the eyes of the world.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
I can’t name one particular moment. The whole wedding felt amazing; it was everything we anticipated and more. The most important thing was that our loved ones were there to celebrate our love.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Yes, sure. Even though this is the most important day of your life, and you want to schedule every minute of it, the most amazing moments are the ones not fully planned. My advice would be to get a great venue, a good photographer and/or videographer, have some nice beats going, and just have FUN.
