A three-judge panel for the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals overruled U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker on Monday and extended the stay on Proposition 8, effectively halting the legal recognition of same-sex marriage until the case is heard before the appeals court. Had Walker’s ruling stood, the stay would have expired on Wednesday. The court has agreed to hear arguments in the appeal beginning Dec. 6.
