Like icing on the cake, the jewelry pieces you choose to accent your ensemble are the finishing touches to your wedding day look. Diamonds may proverbially be a girl’s best friend, but today’s brides are reaching for baubles that evoke a sense of uniqueness.
Designer Paula Montgomery does just that, creating whimsical accessories that are not only enchanting, but have a story behind each individual piece. Scouting out vintage finds around the world, from antique shows in the Midwest to secret dealers in Europe, she then takes the re-purposed treasures and turns them into stunning statements. “I only buy quality pieces that were beautiful when worn originally. It helps to start with great stuff,” Montgomery explains. “I have a degree in drawing and painting and have always been artistic and seem to have a flair for color. Repurposing jewelry, to me, is no different than making a collage and deciding which papers to use. But, in my case, it’s choosing the right components to go together in a way that makes sense and is good design. Finding wonderful jewelry is never the problem with all the online auction sites, etc., but it’s knowing what to do with them once you have them that is the difference.”
The result is an online catalog filled with one-of-a-kind wares, alluring to brides who have a strong sense of style. “Someone who appreciates the history behind my pieces, who knows who she is and loves the idea of being the only person in the world who owns that piece of jewelry,” she says.
And one lucky bride will win this pair of sterling silver earrings that feature a light blue faceted crystal bell-shaped connector, vintage sterling silver rose charm from a vintage rosary bracelet (complete with a tiny saint on the back) and a dainty drop heart of Swarovski crystal. To enter to win, visit Paula Montgomery and share with us your favorite piece in the comments below. Winner will be selected on Monday, November 26. Deadline to enter contest is 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Friday, November 23. Good luck!
