Take red-carpet hair-do cues from Hollywood starlets

Your wedding day is just as significant as the Oscars, Globes and Grammy’s, so give your locks the limelight with a red-carpet hairstyle.

Stylist Harry Josh, John Frieda’s International Creative Consultant, has beautified the likes of Ellen Pompeo and Gwyneth Paltrow, and he transformed Amanda Seyfried for the Oscars and Rose Byrne for the Golden Globes.

“[For Rose,] I went for an old-school Hollywood style with a modern twist,” says Josh. “The shape and silhouette is classic, but I roughed it up a little and loosened the waves to make the look less up tight.”

Josh shares the inside scoop and his expert styling tips on how to achieve these looks for your walk down the aisle.

First, apply John Frieda’s Luxurious Volume Bountiful Body Mousse to your wet hair to add texture.

“Before you start styling, add tons of Luxurious Volume Mousse to sectioned-off hair. It will give hair the texture it needs to help the waves set and stay in all night,” explains Josh.

Next, blow dry the hair with a round brush section by section. Using a small curling iron, wrap each section of hair with the iron pointed down. Then brush out the curls until you achieve the perfect wave.

“To ensure Rose’s hair would look perfect in front of the cameras and would stay full and lifted throughout the night, I sprayed John Frieda’s Luxurious Volume All Out Hold Hairspray,” says Josh. “This spray is really light and dry so it doesn’t affect the style, but will hold waves in place for hours.”

SLEEK AND CHIC IN THE STYLE OF AMANDA SEYFRIED

Whip those flyaways into shape by first washing with Frizz-Ease Smooth Start Hydrating shampoo and conditioner. “These shampoos and conditioners were the perfect way for Amanda to prep her hair,” says Josh. “The look was flat, clean and sleek, so it was important to start the fight against frizz early so that Amanda’s hair would be silky, shiny and totally manageable.”

Apply Root Awakening Strength Restoring Gel to your hair at the roots to help achieve the sleek, flattened shape. Using a tail comb instead of a round brush to avoid lift, blow your hair out and comb it flat to the head as you dry it.

For all you blondes out there, Josh used the Sheer Blonde Crystal Clear Shape & Shimmer Hairspray section by section to hold the style.

“Amanda has such beautiful naturally blonde hair that I wanted to ensure it looked its best all night and didn’t photograph dark—which some finishing sprays can cause,” says Josh. “By using a light hairspray you avoid adding residue or darkening the blonde hair.”

If you’re not blonde, any other finishing spray will work.

Finish by creating an extreme, slick side part, and pull your hair back into a bun. Feel free to leave a little bit of the bun sticking out in a fan. (Josh did this to reflect the pattern on Amanda’s earrings.)
