After much anxiety about the storm warnings, the wind and rain stayed away and the sun even made an appearance, adding to the perfection of the day! We were lucky enough to get our photos taken outdoors, on the beautiful banks of Loch Lomond. A perfect setting for our rustic themed wedding. To top it all off, on our wedding night, Hazel and I slept overnight on the grounds of the castle in a 1979 VW Campervan, before hitting the road for a few days to kick off our mini moon.

Our ceremony was conducted by the fabulous humanist celebrant, Gerrie Douglas-Scott. We walked down the aisle at opposite sides to Ludovico Einaudi’s Nuvole Bianche. Hazel walked down a side aisle with her dad, Ian and Jaclyn walked down the aisle with her dad, Peter. After reciting our personalized vows and saying the all important legal words, our celebrant quoted the much loved author and poet, Dr Seuss: “We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.” We should point out that Gerrie was sporting a Dr. Seuss hat for this moment. Thanks, Gerrie! This concluded our ceremony, leading us into a dance down the aisle to “Good Day For Marrying You” by Dave Barnes. Perfect!

The reception kicked off with some drinks, crisps and sandwiches, as our friend and magician performed some incredible magic for our guests. With not a drop of rain and (almost) clear skies, the guests were able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings before sitting down to a hearty meal of either steak pie or chicken and haggis and profiteroles. As darkness fell on Loch Lomond, the fairy lights came on in the marquee, the evening guests arrived and it was time to don our dancing shoes. Our first dance was “I Choose You” by Sara Bareilles, an easy decision as it has always been one of our favorites since day one. After this, the dance floor was rarely empty with all kinds of music and dancing (some of which was questionable). Everyone also took time to have their pictures taken at our wooden pallet photobooth, which also hosted an array of interesting dress up items. The night continued with more scran, the classic selection of breakfast rolls and our very popular and delicious wedding cake. It all came to a close with one last song – Loch Lomond. Very apt!
