Last May, bride-to-be Koyuki Higashi took to Twitter to encourage Tokyo Disney to change their policy on same-sex weddings after she was told her and her fiancée would have to dress like a heterosexual couple if they wanted to exchange vows at the Happiest Place on Earth. Thanks to her efforts, the company changed their policies within a week and, 10 months later, Higashi got her happily ever after as she and her partner became the first same-sex couple to marry at Tokyo Disney.

The brides looked stunning in classic ball gown dresses paired with sweeping veils and long white gloves. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that they said their I dos in the chapel of Hotel MiraCosta, which we were originally told would be off-limits to same-sex couples because of “religious teachings.”
“Mickey and Minnie rushed to congratulate me, and [we] boarded a mini parade of Venetian gondola out of the public ceremony in the chapel of the Hotel MiraCosta, to the park!” Higashi writes on her blog. “[It] was really a great day.”
