The bride describing her wedding dress as a ball gown with a full skirt, maybe beading and embroidery embellishments and a veil with a long train topped with a tiara is definitely a princess bride. This season designers may have showed more mermaids and sheaths than voluminous skirts, but when they did include a ball gown it was a show stopper.
As for color, white and ivory still reigned as the number one hue but red ball gowns made a big splash as the finale dresses at both Oscar de la Renta and Romona Keveza. And Vera Wang’s Spring 2013 collection was all in shades of red. If you want a little bit of color, check out Alfred Angelo’s black and white gown below.
Here’s a selection of some of our favorite ball gowns from the April 2012 shows:
Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang, Romona Keveza
Alfred Angelo, Angel Sanchez, Badgley Mischka
Ines Di Santo, Dennis Basso, Carolina Herrera
Marchesa, Maggie Sottero, Monique Lhuillier
