Australian tennis legend Margaret Court doubled down on her views about gay marriage, according to the New York Times. Court offered her opinions in a Tuesday interview—stressing hatred doesn’t fuel them.

The Grand Slam champion has been a Pentecostal preacher since the 1990s. Court won 24 singles, 19 doubles and 19 mixed tennis matches.
Her religious beliefs sparked contentious comments about the GLBT community. For instance, Court said, in 1991, lesbianism ruined tennis. Efforts to allow gay and lesbian Australians to have legally recognized unions prompted more caustic comments from Court.
“Politically correct education has masterfully escorted homosexuality out from behind closed doors, into the community openly and now is aggressively demanding marriage rights that are not theirs to take,” Court said.
