Gay and lesbian couples can now get legally wed in paradise. Same-sex marriage has become legally recognized in the Mexican Caribbean resort towns of Cancun and Cozumel, Fox News Latino reports.
Gay and lesbians entering into marriage have local civil code—open to loose interpretation—to thank. The Quintana Roo region of Mexico’s civil code only refers to people “interested in getting married.” No gender is mentioned.
Gay marriage is already legal in Mexico City, where more than 1,200 gay couples have been married so far. Several couples are contemplating marrying in the Mexican Caribbean region.
The International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association will work with airlines and hotels to bring wedding bliss all the way down Mexico’s Caribbean coast.
