Some politicians feel raising taxes will help lower the country’s debt, while others slash jobs to up their economy. Here’s an idea: legally recognize same-sex marriage.
When Iowa passed the marriage equality bill in 2009, the resulting spending on wedding arrangements and tourism provided an additional $12 to $13 million to the state and local economy. That’s approximately $858,000 and $930,000 in tax revenue to the state.
Weddings are expensive and, let’s face it, we’re notorious for over-the-top celebrations. In order to get the heck out of this recession, the quickest way is through the gays.
