summer gay wedding in California vineyard

[dropcap letter=”E”]ric and Edgar’s summer evening gay wedding at the Lincourt Vineyards in Olivos, Calif., incorporated shades of white linen and smoke blue. Their florist used a variety of flowers, including peonies and hydrangeas, as well as eucalyptus and olive branches. The Los Angeles–based grooms, who’ve been together for 19 years, began planning their outdoor wedding when California announced in June 2013 that it would start issuing same-sex marriage licenses. Standing under an arch covered in flowers, Eric and Edgar said “I do” in matching Hugo Boss tuxedos and Salvatore Ferragamo black shoes. The exchanged matching platinum wedding bands from Tiffany & Co.

At the wedding reception, the 150 guests and the newlywed husbands dined on passed appetizers including ahi tuna tartare, wild boar pastrami Reuben, mac-and-cheese fritters with Maine lobster and house-smoked bacon-wrapped figs. The first course was heirloom tomato salad, and for the entrée, the guests were offered a choice of seared Alaskan halibut or cabernet-braised short rib. Both were served with gruyere potatoes and sautéed heirloom spinach. Children were served wood-fire cheese pizza. Enjoying a vineyard wedding, it was easy to celebrate and toast with wines from Lincourt Vineyards, including rosé, chardonnay and pinot noir.

Their triple layer wedding cake featured a different style and flavor per layer: a square vanilla sponge cake with raspberry preserves, a square chocolate sponge with fresh strawberries, and the top layer was a round hummingbird cake. Their unique cake topper was custom-made to look like the grooms.

The couple honeymooned on the island of Langkawi, Malaysia.

“We met in the housewares department at Macy’s in Beverly Hills on Black Friday in 1996,” says Eric. “We were both buying Krups coffee makers for gifts. We talked briefly in line while we were paying and again in the gift-wrap department. We exchanged phone numbers and went on our first date a couple of weeks later. We’ve been an item ever since.

“After waiting 17 years, it was surreal to finally get married. It was magical to bring our family and close friends together for a fun weekend in wine country. There was a lot of emotion and love in the group. To share all that in such a beautiful setting was a dream come true. It’s something I will always remember.

Edgar added to Eric’s sentiments by saying, “After a year of planning, our long weekend of wedding festivities with close family and friends was absolutely beautiful and perfect!  It wasn’t just a day to remember, it was days of fun, reunion, great food and wine!  It was a celebration of our love for each other, as well as our love for family and friends.”
