Kiley (she/her) and Summer (she/her) always dreamed of an intimate wedding in the mountains. When the time came to plan the big day, they opted for a small destination mountain wedding with their family, on a mountaintop near Breckenridge, Colorado. The springtime ceremony took place close to the trail where the brides took their first hike together, making the location especially meaningful for them.
The couple got ready together at a cabin, wearing matching “Mrs.” and “Mrs.” shirts. Their families helped them put on their dresses and prepare for the ceremony as it rained off and on all day. The sky cleared just in time for family photos, and the group drove to Sapphire Point for Kiley and Summer’s exchange of vows, read from matching booklets with “her vows” on each cover. The rain returned, and the brides nestled under an umbrella as they said “I do.”
“We wanted to keep it simple with a white-and-sage color scheme,” says Kiley. Summer’s bouquet included white hydrangeas in honor of her grandmother, and the bridesmaids wore sage dresses to match the floral accents. The wedding party received whiskey glasses engraved with their names and titles, along with cigars to celebrate the occasion.
After cutting the cake, popping the champagne and getting soaked in the returning rainstorm, the newlyweds and their family headed back to town for an elegant dinner. Rainbows were part of the day, with both Kiley and Summer sporting shoes with rainbow soles and a rainbow layered cake finished with buttercream frosting.
Kiley shares a bit of wisdom for other LGBTQ+ marriers: “Build a strong support system. Love should not be conditional, so find people that love all of you. As a couple, surround yourself with people that celebrate you and celebrate your love. Having this support will make the times when society or others don’t support you just a little bit easier.”
