I first met Ashia at my sister’s basketball game, Baylor vs. Kansas State. We did not speak to each other, but I later found her on Instagram. Her account was private and I waited days before she accepted me. Days went by, and I realized she finally accepted my request. I direct messaged her the same day. We started to direct message for a couple of days until we finally exchanged numbers. She lived in Kansas, and I lived in Texas. Due to her basketball schedule, I knew I had to go see her. In December 2015, we met on FaceTime for the first time, and I told her I was ready to meet her in person. I came to her basketball game at Kansas State University at the end of December. We shared our first New Years’ kiss, and we haven’t shared another with anyone else. —Janell Roy, one half of the couple
