In an interview on Friday, Vice President Joe Biden told Good Morning America’s George Stephanopolous that the country is evolving and that there is an “inevitability for a national consensus on gay marriage.”
Seeming to confirm Biden’s theory, President Obama again revealed that his own position on gay marriage is “evolving” in a press conference on Tuesday. “At this point, what I’ve said is that my baseline is a strong civil union that provides them [same-sex couples] the protections and legal rights that married couples have,” Obama said. “But I recognize that from their perspective it is not enough, and I think is something that we’re going to continue to debate and I personally am going to continue to wrestle with going forward.”
