Our relationship has been anything but typical from the beginning. Kylie and I met while I was vacationing in St. Pete Beach. We spent all night chatting at a little local watering hole and by the end of it we both knew we needed to see each other again.
We spent months talking every free second we had, which was not easy due to our busy lives. Long-distance relationships are not for the faint of heart. We spent days and weeks flying to different cities to see each other because when you have two people that love traveling, why not? Eventually we decided if we were going to give this a real shot, one of us would have to make a move. It was one of the easiest decisions I’ve made and I’d do it all over again. I packed up my SUV and drove across the country to start a life with Kylie.
I settled into my new role as a cat and lizard mom pretty quickly. We bought our first home together, learned to navigate hectic work and school schedules, new jobs and hard times life can sometimes bring. No matter what has come our way, we’ve found a way to make the best of everything together.

I had Kylie’s best friends to help pull off the proposal. Normally her inquisitive nature and eye for detail are great traits, but not when you’re trying to pull off any sort of surprise. To my own surprise, it went seamlessly. There’s a little spot on St. Pete Beach with a secret garden I thought would be perfect. It had every piece of the things we both love. The city we met, the ocean and lots of plants! I knew I wanted to capture the moment and having that memory to look back on would be something she would appreciate as well. I tirelessly researched and asked for recommendations until I found the perfect proposal photographer. I wanted to find someone who could not only help me pull this surprise off, but who would take the time to understand who we were as people, as a couple and would capture all of that in a beautiful way. Once I saw Juliana’s work, I knew she was perfect. As expected, the proposal went flawlessly and Kylie didn’t suspect a thing. Now we have the most beautiful photos to look back on and remember such a perfect evening. — Sarah De La Torre
