Blue and yellow spring wedding at the Lake Country Club

Clint and Ahmad had a spring wedding with a blue and yellow color scheme in York, South Carolina, at the Spring Lake Country Club.

Clint and Ahmad celebrated their wedding day surrounded by only their closest friends and family. They chose to prepare for the day together, helping each other dress into their matching grey suits.

The marriers gifted their wedding party members custom sunglasses with custom cases for the glasses that commemorated their wedding date. They also had commemorative shot glasses and a pair of engraved Tiffany champagne glasses as well.

After a few portraits of the couple and their wedding party, it was time for them to be wed! Clint and Ahmad said their vows to one another in front of a small group of friends and family overlooking Spring Lake Country Club’s namesake lake.

They even had a Batman and Superman cake topper. After they partied the night away a little bit, Clint and Ahmad exited their wedding day with a sparkler exit.

How did you two meet and start dating?

We met online in December 2013. We messaged each other on and off for roughly two weeks before we decided to meet in person. We actually had our first date on January 4, 2014, which we have used as our “anniversary” date for the last five years.

Tell us the proposal story.

We had a large Carolina/Clemson party and all of our family and friends were over. I (Clint) had the slightest clue that anything was going on in the background during the party. It was brought to my attention that my future sister-in-law had a dead battery and needed someone to come assist her.

Ahmad was insistent that it was I that went and assisted her in jumping her car. So his brother and I went together and half way there we got a “call” that said she was fine now and someone else had stopped to help her—so we turned around and headed back to the house. When we were pulling back into our neighborhood, Ahmad called his brother and had him hand me the phone, but I had already noticed there were several large prints of us leaned against all the mailboxes leading to our street.

At this point, I was well aware of what was about to take place. We turned onto our street and everyone was outside, each holding a rose, and when I got out there was a walkway of rose petals for me to walk up to Ahmad. He had a special song by Sam Smith playing in the background and it’s now a favorite of ours. He had the sweetest proposal plotted out and memorized it to a T.

Please keep in mind that I was a mess—I’ll blame the wine of course. He went through the well-rehearsed script he created and concluded with, “What do you say, Batman, will you marry me?” and here we are today. (We have favorite superhero characters; his is Superman and mine is Batman. I loved how he integrated that into the proposal.)

Tell us what you love about each other.

There can be so much to put here, but I am going to keep in short and sweet. Simply put, Ahmad is the yin to my yang. We bring out the best in each other and continue to do so since day one. We are from totally opposite backgrounds, careers and cultures, but we somehow fit so seamlessly. Of course, all couples have arguments, but we use those times as building blocks to continuously re-solidify our relationship.

What are a few things that you two love to do together?

We love to go and do things when time permits: Traveling abroad, taking a cruise, going on mini trips with friends, tackling mini projects in/around the house, spending time with family and friends.

Tell me about the moment you first knew you were in love with the other.

I knew after the first few weeks that I could see myself with Ahmad long term. However, I didn’t wanna jump in all at once, so I waited a while to tell him that I loved him. I had never really expressed myself to anyone else this way before and wanted to make sure it was love and not lust.

Once I became certain I wanted to tell him, I wanted to do so in a sweet and unique fashion. So, I decided that I was going to make a set of eight chalkboard coasters and write, “I love you” on them in eight different languages with the last one being in Arabic. Ahmad is Lebanese and the language he and his family speak fluently is Arabic, so I wanted to somehow relate it to my gift.

He obviously knew what the coasters were saying when it got to the French and Spanish tiles, as these are easy to decipher. It was a great memory we had together and still cherish to this day. I used a special coat of poly to seal in the tile that was written in Arabic and he uses it daily.

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?

We wanted our day to be full of life and love! We didn’t plan any certain theme; however, our color palette was centered around blue and silver with a splash of yellow.

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?

We did do a large portion of the decor ourselves, these items include the following: hanging string lights in the tents outside, folding the linen napkins into mini tuxedos, hanging all of the lanterns, installing up-lighting on the dance floor and creating our wedding favors (which were mini succulents).

What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

All of the floral arrangements were absolutely stunning. The floral arrangements were incorporated throughout the entire wedding day. The boutonnieres, the corsages, bouquets and centerpieces were all designed by the wonderful staff at Twigs-n-Twine Floral Design. They did play a huge part in tying all the colors together and they did so wonderfully.

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

It’s hard to narrow it down because we actually loved the entire day. Everything flowed smoothly and the stress level was manageable—only some minor stress due to the public speaking, but it was easy after we started. Like I said, it’s hard to narrow it down, but all of our guests raved over how well the food tasted and everyone loved the cake and how it turned out, and of course, we loved our photographer. She definitely played a key part in making our day stress free!

Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.

This process didn’t take much thought. We wanted matching tuxedos for all the guys and for all the ladies we wanted them in the same color, but to pick their own dress designs. It turned out great! Ahmad and I decided to do grey tuxedos and have all the other guys in blue, which ended up being a great decision.

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

We are not sure about this one. We decided to do a first look and actually get dressed together so we basically spent the whole day together. We did love stepping in and seeing everyone inside the reception, the flowers in place and the cake making its debut.

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

Just remember that this is your day, make the most of it! Make sure to pick a wedding planner, a florist and a photographer that fits your needs and you connect with. We did this and it made our day flow effortlessly.
